The Kinect typically does a pretty good job but the tech is also finicky at times, especially the v1 from the original Xbox 360. v2 is far better but it can still have some issues, especially with the person in a seated position. With the v1, the thing you will notice most is lighting will greatly affect the results of how well it works.
