These are not quite your normal obd readers - they can access all ECU's on the vehicle. Beware that resolving your short drive issue by seeking to do on demand regens may have a negative consequence.
Oil gets contaminated (rise to "x" mark) in about 3000km. Regen happens every 80-100 km - this is one of the problems. Other problem is: while regenerating, instant fuel consumption "sky rocketing" - if I drive on highway at 120km/h and instant fuel consumptions is around 6 l/100km - regen starts and it jumps to 18-20 l/100km (for 20 min or 30
If the car starts a DPF regeneration, extend your journey if need be until it has finished the job (takes around 5-10 mins of driving, in my Alfa at least), and give it some beans to help it out.
3. Low Oil Supply. An engine with insufficient oil is another potential cause of this issue. This is because the regeneration process won’t begin until you fill the engine up if there is less than a fourth of the recommended quantity of oil in it. The DPF is housed in a section of the tailpipe.
Very little difference in time to complete, about 15 minutes. The only way to know it is regenning (without a scanner) is to watch the % decrease from 100% to 0%. My % typically goes from 0 to ~60% fairly quick, then drops to ~45%, then increases. At 70%, it increases 2% about every 10 miles driven on the highway.

FYI, there's no such thing as a level 1, 2, or 3 DPF regeneration. This nomenclature is simply incorrect. There are three ways the DPF will regenerate. I'll give a very brief description below. 1. Passive: when EGT's are high enough (no fuel is injected). 2. Active: when ECM commands fuel injection with exhaust stroke (65-90% soot level) 3.
Emergency Regeneration. Yellow or Red “REGEN REQUIRED” light comes “ON” Driver must choose one of the following options to perform this regeneration. If one of the following options is not completed, Limp Home Mode may be activated. Running Option 1: Operate vehicle above 30mph for approximately 20 minutes.
How do you trigger a DPF regeneration? When the DPF warning light lights on the dash WITHOUT the EML / Check engine light, the DPF regeneration / cleaning button should be used. This warning light indicates that the DPF has reached its defined particulate matter limit and requires care, or, to put it another way, it is blocked.
Immediately after a regen, the soot mass drops to 4g. But then within 3 minutes of continued highway driving the soot mass has climbed right back to 25g, and then within 30-40 minutes the soot mass is back up to around 40-42g. The last 4 or so regens (since I've had the carly app) have occurred about every 80km.
